Finding Your Way Home
The Bible is very clear that we are lost without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Great Prophet Isaiah writes in Isaiah 53:6: 'We all, like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way.'
Sadly life is filled with more 'aimless' moments than we would like to consider, yet God sees our wandering and calls us home, He calls us unto Himself.
We believe that this call home comes through Jesus Christ, God's Only Begotten Son. In The Gospel of John we read these words of Jesus: 'I Am The Way, The Truth and The Life, no man comes unto The Father but by Me.' (John 14:6) John also records these very familiar words: 'For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
The Bible is filled with many wonderful truths from God that show us His incredible desire to bring us back to Himself
If you have a moment let's consider a few:
First - Our Eternal Home (Heaven/Eternal Life) is a Free Gift based upon God's Amazing Grace. It is neither earned or deserved!
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Secondly - In and of ourselves, we do not deserve this gracious gift of eternal life. Why you may ask? The Bible tells us that we are all sinners and as a result our sin separates us from God.
"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)
"There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one...there is no fear of God before their eyes." (Romans 3:10-12/18)
Thirdly - We are incapable, in and of ourselves, of restoring our relationship with God.
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us."
(Titus 3:5)
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Fourthly - God's Word is clear that because our sin has separated us from God - the consequences of those sins is eternal separation from God.
"For the wages of sin is death..." (Romans 6:23)
"The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting you to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." (II Peter 3:9)
Our chief need in life is three fold:
- forgiveness
- peace with God
- eternal life
We try religion, good deeds, materialism, acclaim, etc., to satisfy our need for fulfillment and purpose - YET THESE DO NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM CAUSED BY SIN!
Fifthly - Because of our inability to solve the sin problem and its curse, God takes the lead and provides The Only Way back to Himself. It is in the God-Man Jesus Christ.
"In the beginning was The Word and The Word was with God and The Word was God...and The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us." (John 1:1/14)
"God commended His love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
(Romans 5:8)
"Christ once suffered for sins, The Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God." (I Peter 3:18)
"Jesus saith unto him, I am The Way, The Truth and The Life: no man cometh unto The Father, but by Me." (John 14:6)
Sixthly - Personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is God's answer back to Him.
Faith is not merely mentally believing in a fact about Jesus, it is personal faith
"You believe that there is One God. Good! Even the demons believe that - and shudder." (James 2:19)
Many people agree that Jesus Christ lived and died, and some even agree to the fact of His Resurrection! But, they have not turned from sin, and trusted Him.
True Faith is turning from your sins and trusting in Jesus Christ alone for your eternal destiny!
"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which they must be saved." (Acts 4:12)
"Believe on The Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved." (Acts 16:31)
"Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God." (John 1:12)
"Whosoever calls upon The Name of The Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)
Have you ever thought about coming home? Have you ever tried to fill those 'aimless' moments, yet found out that it is impossible on your own? Friend, only Jesus satisfies...!
If this is you - pray this prayer with a sincere heart
Dear Lord Jesus, it is in Your Name I pray - thank you so much for your gift of eternal life. I recognize now that I am a sinner eternally separated from you and because of that there is nothing that I can do to change this situation on my own. I believe that Jesus Christ is The Son of God and that God has provided Him as my only solution to the problem of eternal death. I believe that Jesus died for my sin, rose from the dead and is now seated at God's right hand. I now place my complete trust in Him and Him alone. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus Name I pray Amen!
If you prayed this prayer and want to know what to do next - how about contacting me so I can pray with you and so that I can help you with the next steps - it is a message I long for. (fbcofnt@aol.com)
